Fashion Diamond in the Rough

Just another girl talking about fashion & street style & life

Month: April, 2012

Jessica Bley, 21

STYLE INSPIRATION: “Right now, I’m going really tribal and native so the Hopi Indians inspire me versus other people…but anyone with bold taste and bold style.”

ONE PIECE SHE WEARS CONSISTENTLY: “I’ve mixing stuff up a lot. I just try to keep it fresh and funky.”

SPRING STYLE: “Really feminine, romantic and sultry. There is so much white, high necks with an open back and lots of dresses and skirts instead of pants.”

DEFINE YOUR STYLE: “Bold, funky and it depends.”

STYLE EVALUATION: Bley’s love for bold prints and tribal patterns coincides with what was on the runway for Spring 2012. Everyone was mixing and matching patterns on the runway but only a select few were moved to design attire that appeared to come straight from Africa. Some to master the style Bley is after were Proenza Schouler, Donna Karen, J. Mendel, and L.A.M.B. Now designing her own collection, Bley is working on incorporating these same patterns into her work.

Cassie Gaskin, 22

STYLE INSPIRATION: “I like the way Mischa Baron dresses and I like the way that she just looks like she doesn’t have expensive clothes on but you know that they probably are. They look like vintage things that she just throws on. I like unordinary but I don’t necessarily imitate that.”

ONE PIECE SHE WEARS CONSISTENTLY: “I wear boots a lot. Usually even in the summer I’ll wear shorts and a pair of cowboy boots or suede boots or something. You’ll always see me with a watch. I have them in every color and they’re probably my favorite accessory.”

SPRING STYLE: “I’ve had dresses that I’ve worn since the tenth grade and I love dresses so I’ll probably just wear them…with boots. I’m also very excited for frayed shorts.”

DEFINE YOUR STYLE: “Not too much of a hippie but kind of a mixture between a fashionable hippie and street style. I really just throw things together and luckily people seem to like it.”

STYLE EVALUATION: 2012 is turning into the year of the gypsy where jewelry is becoming the centerpiece of the outfit and the clothing is falling to the wayside. Cassie has picked up on this trend and followed through with her obsessive watch collection and accompanying variety of bracelets. With help from a variety of street style bloggers, take a look at some of the top trending wrist accessories: Greedy Boys, Styledeity in Athens, Lulu Frost, and Rag Trade in the City.

Music-Festival Fashion

Whether or not you care, I’m taking this moment to inform you (brag) that I am going to Coachella this weekend. That left me two options. I could either report on the fashion while I was there…or give a mini pre-fashion show based on the predictions for festival fashion. As Coachella has yes to happen and I am discussing it, one might conclude that I am taking the second route. One might be right.

It’s time to take a look at the best pre-festival fashion from the brands that know how to keep the festival fashion going all year round.

Muzi Qiao, 22

STYLE INSPIRATION: “When I dress, I just choose what I like bit I read fashion blogs a lot so that’s where I get my inspirations.”

ONE PIECE SHE WEARS CONSISTENTLY: “I don’t know, it’s always changing.”

SPRING STYLE: “I like to choose something floral and maybe some bright colors.”

DEFINE YOUR STYLE: “I just don’t follow the trends.”

STYLE EVALUATION: From top to bottom, Muzi’s style is well put together with a concise look. With a longer sheer top coming through the bottom of her sweater and her pant’s tucked into boots, this clean cut look picks up a hint of ballerina grunge.  Two parallel looks can be found in Elle Magazine’s edition of street style. With a skirt or flowey element on top followed by boots at the bottom, Alexandra Malmed and Amanda Rosenthal prove that Muzi is not the only one onto this new style.
